The Lactulose Breath Test is a non-invasive procedure that enables the physician to test for the presence of bacteria in the small intestine. The test is performed on-site, in your office by trained G-EyeMobile nursing personnel.
This procedure is intended for patients who have a history of Irritable Bowel Syndrome or ongoing symptoms that may include, but are not limited to, bloating, gas, abdominal pain, diarrhea, and constipation.
A safe, non-absorbable sugar solution is swallowed by the patient. Hydrogen and methane gases are measured in the patient’s breath. Gas levels are elevated as the solution is passed through the small intestine and the bacteria feast on the sugar.
This test takes approximately three hours and preparations include only minimal dietary changes.
